And now, ladies and gentlemen, something completely different! Who would have thought that a single man with a piano could efficiently recreate what 6 musicians normally do with different instruments such as guitars, bass guitar, drums and voice?

If you're into Glenn Gould's style of piano playing as well as Iron Maiden – of course! – you're really in for a really nice treat with this particular album. Talented conductor and pianist Scott Lavender managed to arrange the music of Iron Maiden and adapt it to piano renditions. Naturally, some songs are more appropriate to this kind of arrangements than others, so the result is not always perfect, although most of the pieces sound really good anyway.

The guitar solos adapted to the piano sound quite jazzy, mixing the classical feel of the melody lines with something more modern. Even the galloping mood of songs such as "The Trooper" or "Run To The Hills" has been rendered close to perfection. The adaptation work is quite admirable.

The original composition, "Eddie's Lament", does not seem to have much to do with Eddie, or with Iron Maiden either for that matter, but is actually pretty good. Incidentally, the cover artwork represents the best Eddie since a long time, and even the official cover sleeves haven't been that good lately. So, with such a nice illustration and really good music on the piano, this tribute album is quite highly recommended.
