Hear! Hear! Gentle Ladies and noble Lords! A quartet of troubadours hath come to our Kingdom and shall perform brand new songs tonight at the castle in honour of the valiant knights who conquered many realms with their music and poetry!

The medieval/classical feel of this album will probably please all those who like both acoustic instrumental music and Iron Maiden. All the songs are performed by a real string quartet – the Little Emo String Quartet, led by James Sitterly and composed of two violins, a viola and a cello – with some percussions to spice it all up a bit. All the arrangement have been made by Karl Preusser, who is more known for writing musical scores for films, but who also contributed to many other string quartet tribute albums, such as those of Disturbed, Korn, Incubus, Bon Jovi, The Eagles, or even Tupac, to name only those.

Concerning the music itself, those who would expect something like Apocalyptica may be disappointed. What we have here is not string instruments playing Metal, but an arrangement of Iron Maiden's music into string quartet music. As some of the songs already contain the appropriate mood, whereas others are definitely more modern-sounding, the result is quite even in its quality from a song to another. "The Number Of The Beast" may therefore sound quite cheesy to many, but the rendition of "Hallowed Be Thy Name" is brilliant (well, it is a brilliant song to start with anyway!).

The cover sleeve is also pretty interesting, made by a company calledPuddnhead, it is some warped imitation of Leonardo Da Vinci's anatomical drawings. Some may think that it would best fit a Death Metal tribute, but I think it's quite witty for an album called Anatomy Of Evil. Incidentally, the title track, written by Karl Preusser, is probably the best one on the album, probably because it wasn't trying so hard to sound like Iron Maiden, but was instead an original composition.

I'll leave the last words to Karyn Hamilton, who reviewed the album for the ProgPower Online website, and who summed up brilliantly what I felt when I discovered this album:

"I liken this to the difference between the original version of Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet and its modern rendition by Baz Luhrman; and I recall with amusement the reaction to the latter by my dear grandfather, who is a professor of Shakespearean literature. This album will not impress those who regard Iron Maiden to be the unchangeable Shakespeares of metal."
